Overview
Goal
For INLS 382: Information Systems Analysis & Design, project groups were tasked with designing an application that addresses a specific problem over the span of a semester.
Millions of women face reproductive health conditions that go under-researched, leaving them feeling lost and confused on what remedies actually help. Thus, there are countless supplements, treatments, procedures, and more that can quickly become overwhelming. We sought to create a system that focuses on tracking symptoms and progress, while providing a specialized experience tailored to their needs.

User Personas
We wanted to form a deeper understanding of our users’ goals, needs, experiences, and behaviors. So, we created 2 user personas for each of our user segments, based on conversations with the women in our lives as well as our own personal experiences.
Home
– Showcases popular feed and discussion that aligns with the user’s interests.
– Includes a customizable daily checklist, user symptom predictions, and a “Self Love” reminder segment.
Symptom & Period Tracker
– Allows users to log their symptoms, view previous records, and complete journal entries about their symptoms.
Discussion
– Allows users to browse, upvote, and comment on community forums.
Provider Matching
– Users can connect with local providers based on their specific needs. The system matches users with the most similar providers within the system and allows users to view recommendations from other OvaWise users. The interface also allows quick scheduling with their desired provider.
Research
– This page allows users to search, view, and discuss research that has been uploaded to the OvaWise interface.
Takeaways
I do not have a reproductive health condition, so it was important for me to empathize and listen to my team members who do. This project taught me how to step into the shoes of people who have unique health needs and conceptualize what features are most important.
Next Steps
If I came back to this project in the future, I would conduct formal interviews with a wider sample of people. Additionally, I would conduct usability tests on our initial prototype to see what we can improve.
